From dream to reality
It all started as a dream. A dream of encouraging foothills residents to be creative and have an outlet to share their creations with others. A dream of gathering resident together to educate each other about arts and crafts while strengthening our sense of community. A dream of an art cooperative.
But where could we have such a space to bring the dream alive? Fortunately Gary Graham heard about the dream, believed in it, and provided a retrofitted cargo container to house the dream.
Now the dream is a reality. Glacier Creations, located in downtown Glacier near Graham’s Store, opened its doors to the public in the summer of 2009. Over 40 foothills residents have various handmade art and craft items for sale inside, including pottery, photography, paintings, carvings, jewelry, clothing, soaps, tinctures, and much more. Our artists volunteer at the shop and can tell you all about our inventory, which is constantly evolving as new creations continue to arrive.
We operate under three core principles. First, we promote the reuse and recycling of materials in our creations as well as in our shop, which was constructed, painted, and furnished with reused materials. Even the cargo container our shop is housed in was salvaged!
Second, we strive to give back as much as possible to each contributing artist and craftsperson. Members receive 100% of their sales in exchange for staffing the store, attending meetings, and paying small monthly dues; commissioned artists receive the majority of their sales, with a small percentage deducted to help operate and maintain the space.
Third, we wish to give back to the public. We plan to offer several creative workshops; as well, we wish to provide a dedicated space with tools and materials so folks can get creative any time.
We welcome you to our store, and we welcome you to join this unique community endeavor. Whether you bring your pocketbook, ideas, talents, inspiration, creations, or support, come in! We are open.
